Requirements

  1. Experience with Java, Visual Basic and Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access, MS Excel.
  2. Experience and expertise in working with existing software systems.
  3. Proven record of meeting deadlines and writing "bug free" code.
  4. Excellent communications skills with an emphasis on phone skills.

Position Description

  1. Software Design and Programming - Perform product design, systems analysis and programming activities on applications software which may require some research. Applications utilize VB, Java, Crystal Reports, SQL Server, and MS Access.
  2. Customer Support Assist our tier 1 support team when dealing with complex bug and data related support issues. Utilize MS Access and SQL Server database utilities. Upgrade remote SQL Server installations.
  3. Software Testing - Involves testing new functionality prior to release.
  4. Loading Data - Involves pre-loading/importing data from Excel, MS Access, and ASCII files. Also, involves mapping client data into our software and data validation when interfacing our products to existing client systems. Work also includes developing client cost accounting and internal coding systems, performing data validation, configuring software security systems, and initializing data import procedures.

At IT Works, a programmer’s typical day involves modifying previously developed systems, adding new components, and migrating software systems to new technologies. You will be involved in all phases of development process including design, coding and testing.

Customer interaction involves software upgrades, solving data related problems, and reproducing client problems reported by our Tier1 Support.

IT Works delivers software products/applications to departments at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. There have been over 200 installations performed since the late 1980's. The primary purposes of these products are in the areas of grant management and enhanced financial reporting. All development, support, marketing and sales efforts are handled out of our office in Raleigh, NC

Our products have a database back end and two front ends that have been developed with Java and Visual Basic. The database back end uses MS Access for our departmental version and MS SQL for our enterprise version.
