Three team members attended the 18th annual Financial Research Administration 2017 conference sponsored by the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). The theme this year was “Charting Your Course in Research Administration”.
Highlights from NCURA’s Financial Research Administration 2017 Conference
Hosted in San Diego, this year’s annual event convened professionals engaged in the financial administration of research. This community has come together each year for their own conference which has grown from 300 participants in the year 2000 to nearly 1,000 participants in 2017. Geared to those in grants management located in Finance and Accounting offices, Offices of Sponsored Programs, Post-Award Administration, Office of Research and Support and others, the three-day event was an informative gathering of presentations and education spanning a wide array of post-award issues. The IT Works team was excited to attend this year’s conference and discuss our grant management software solutions.
Financial Research Administration Conference Keynote Address was from author Shari Harley based on her recent book “How to say anything to anyone” focused on having the hard conversations in the office, how to be truthful without being disrespectful, give and get more feedback, and how to have more productive meetings. Tying into the conference theme of “charting your course” her insight could be applied in the grants management world as well. Solutions and
On Sunday afternoon during the FRA conference, IT Works’ Director of Implementation and Training, Andrea Comley and Joslin Diabetes Center’s Director of Clinical Research and Decision Support, Joshua Kasper, offered the session: “Taking Control of the Research Process”. This session offered insight on the pitfalls that can be encountered in software implementation and how to avoid those pitfalls. Tips and Tricks were highlighted as well as handouts on Lessons Learned in software implementation were also shared with participants. All who are part of the grants management system benefited from these important reminders whether they were managing one grant or many grants with overlapping time frames.
The future of Charting Your Course in Grants Management
Our team was represented by Audrey Wrenn, Andrea Comley, and Sabrina Bruns who were excited to have a booth at the conference on Sunday and Monday to highlight our latest products as well as our established products. By having a booth at the conference we were able to focus on making new connections in person and answering questions directly rather than through various forms of technology. We encouraged people to connect with us via our social platforms, subscribe to our newsletter, and to read our blogs for current updates. Stay tuned for many more updates, new features, and new solutions to help manage an ever changing, multilayer workflow whether you’re a large research university, a small community college, or a healthcare facility.
The theme “Charting Your Course in Research Administration” reminded us of all the activity we are experiencing in research administration, and how attendees must reinvent the way in which they do their jobs. IT Works was pleased to be a presenter and help attendees see how technology can contribute to their long term goals. We are glad to help you chart your course.
