Sponsored research is pivotal to the advancement of society. Through research into new technology society has progressed forward in everything from medicine to relaxation. But unfocused research is time consuming and ultimately yields few results. In addition, many research programs are expensive and it can be difficult to raise the funds. Sponsored research solves both of this problems by providing researchers with direction and funding.
The first major advantage of sponsored research is that it provides researchers with direction. By providing the funding very specific projects, sponsors can assure that the results will advance society in the most beneficially ways. By being sponsored by companies already established in the area of research, researchers can be certain that their findings will be used immediately. The researchers can avoid having to go through the time and effort to develop their findings into a product or even to have to develop the product. Thus, they are free to focus solely on their research. The researchers are also given more direction with their research. It can be easier to investigate a research when one has an intended goal and their sponsors can help provide these goals. These goals are often real-world problems which the sponsors are hoping to solve. Thus, they can sponsor research projects to find the best solutions to these problems, providing immediate advancement to society. But direction for a research project can only be provided once the funding has been raised, and this process can raise new obstacles.
The other main advantage to sponsored research is that it provides the funding for a wide variety of research projects. Not only is one paying the salaries of the researchers, but also the costs of purchasing the equipment, running the equipment, the facilities, and various other detail costs. These expenses all add up to make the cost of preforming research programs extremely expensive. The funding provided by research sponsors covers a large portion of these expenses and therefore are a major reason the research projects are possible. Thus, their funding makes a major impact on the amount of research available and by extension have an impact on the advancements that come out of this research. The federal government can only fund so much research, and therefore must be very selective in what they fund. They are also limited in the fields of research they can spend their funding. The responsibility of funding all other advancements in society falls to research sponsors. Therefore without them, society would not be able to advance anywhere near as fast as it currently is.
Through their contributions of directions and funding, research sponsors play a crucial role in the success of research projects. Their sponsored research in turn plays a crucial role in the advancement of all areas of society. Sponsored research fills in the gaps in federally funded research. Thus, they allow society to make rapid advances in many fields. Sponsored research has been a driving force behind society’s recent advancements in recent decades and will likely continue to drive society forward for decades to come.
